The Rose Code

The Rose Code by Kate Quinn is a gripping historical fiction novel set during World War II, following three women—Osla, Mab, and Beth—recruited to work as codebreakers at Bletchley Park. As they navigate the world of covert operations, their personal lives become deeply entwined with their mission. From the war's early days to the post-war period, the novel explores themes of friendship, betrayal, and resilience. When a shocking act of treachery threatens their work and their lives, the women must unravel the mystery at all costs.

Kate Quinn quickly became one of my favorite authors when I discovered The Rose Code. Historical fiction and mystery are two of my favorite genres, and this book delivers both incredibly. There’s something about World War II stories that always pulls me in; this one was no exception. The details of each character kept me on the edge of my seat, flipping pages far past my bedtime! One of the storytelling techniques I loved was Quinn’s alternating timelines and perspectives to weave together the lives of Osla, Mab, and Beth—three women from vastly different backgrounds, yet bound together by their intelligence and duties at Bletchley Park.

The novel also offers a glimpse into Alan Turing’s world, as seen through the eyes of a woman who had the rare opportunity to work alongside him. While the main characters are fictional, they bring depth and perspective, making history feel immediate and real.

Needless to say, I absolutely loved this book. It has everything—friendship, betrayal, loyalty, war, a royal wedding, and ultimately, reconciliation. The Rose Code is a must-read if you enjoy historical fiction packed with intrigue, rich character development, and powerful storytelling!
